Each trail is often covered with a carpet of leaves and is shaded
throughout the day.
The park boasts an active wildlife habitat. It is forested with coastal
redwoods, Douglas fir, and Madrones. During a short walk you will likely
see many species of birds, rodents, raccoons, deer and other
wildlife. The streams support steelhead trout and crawdads, easily
seen from the banks.
While most come to see the few large trees rejected by the heavy
timber harvest of the early nineteen hundreds, there is a wealth of fauna
to be found. During the winter months, hundreds of varieties of mushrooms
show their finest. Early spring brings a scattering of exquisite
wildflowers.
